Mark 2 - Would Rise Out Of The Sea

 

Revelation 13:1 "And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy."

The sea (or water) in Bible prophecy symbolises people, nations and languages - in other words a populated area. We can see this from Revelation 17...

Revelation 17:15 "And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues."

So the beast, or Antichrist, would arise from among the established nations of the then-known world. The papacy arose in Western Europe, so it fits this mark.

Revelation 13:16-17

"16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name."
